Some Trends in Home Flooring Selection

Picking your home carpeting is normally one of the biggest choices you make when doing a reworking job. Many individuals will pick one single color and style of carpet to be installed throughout the home. Others will consider each room individually and maybe even select a different colour and type of carpet for the room.

Today, there is such a good range in sorts of carpet, color of carpets and even price of carpets. In the past, when carpet was first becoming popular in homes the sole fabric available was wool. Today there are many different fabrics that are accessible.

When home carpeting first went to synthetic fiber, it was easy to see that the fabric was synthetic as the carpet had a glaze to it that many families failed to like. With the improvement of synthetic fabrics, it is nearly impossible to determine if carpets are made of a man-made or natural fabric.

Today about 96% of American houses have wall to wall carpets in the living and family rooms, corridors and bedrooms. Formal dining rooms have real or laminate wood floors and kitchens and loos sometimes have rolled linoleum floors. With this much carpeting being used, it's no wonder that there's been so much improvement in artificial fibers utilized in making carpeting.

Some of the improvements in carpeting over the last 50 years include eliminating the unwished-for sheen, developing anti-static fibers to get rid of almost all of the static electrical build up that carpets are fairly well known for, and chemicals such as Scotchguard that can be added to the carpets. Actually there have been some fibers that have built in molecular barriers that resist soil and stains (DuPont's Stainmaster was first to present this process). This allowed spills to remain on the surface a little longer, while minimising the chance of staining.

There has been so much improvement in the feel and kinds of carpet over time that it is occasionally quite a job to choose just the right carpet for your house. There is a movement to boost home flooring by choosing a specific carpet type and color for each room.
